We finally got down to Fort Myers Beach today. The community of vacation homes, resorts and all their supporting businesses, is just devastated. We saw amazingly few people and not many relief organizations. So many buildings are totally destroyed, and I expect many of the remaining buildings will be bulldozed. It is hard for a building to survive when raging waters overwhelm above the second story…
We have learned that every home has a story to tell. These homes speak of vacations and ice cream, of time with family and friends. I am afraid these homes and beaches are going to be empty and quiet for a good long while…..
