Gail and I were in Florida from July 11th to August 5th, working at the Hurricane Ian response site in Ft Myers. It was great to work with teams from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Wisconsin.

We were in five or six homes, leading and helping team members (“green shirts”) in things like mudding, sanding, and painting, or installing tile, cabinets, trim and doors. We also helped to keep the teams focused on prayer and “peopling” (putting people over projects). It was exciting to see God at work in the lives of team members and homeowners. Here’s a short video showing snippets of the work and the “peopling”:
Another true highlight of the response in Florida is the Bible Study that is being held in the community center at Spring Creek Village. Katrina Welch (and Gail) worked with homeowners to begin a study called “Beyond Disaster.” Homeowner Wanda Brown talks about the impact of the study:
That clip is from the video I did while in Florida, a new orientation video for teams arriving at the Ft Myers site. I’d love to show you the full video, but it is only shown to the teams that come to Ft Myers. Maybe you should consider gathering a few folks and signing up to head that way. Contact Gail or me: we can tell you more and get you started (or you can email respond@efca.org)
If you would like to help us get back to Florida and to other places where crisis creates a mission field, we are currently raising monthly support. Visit our support page at EFCA ReachGlobal: Bob and Gail DeGray
