Phoebe is the newest member of the DeGray family. She’s a 2020 Pleasure Way Lexor FL class B camper van, and we’ll be using her for Crisis Response work, for travel and for family visits.
We’re calling her Phobe because of what Romans 16:1 says about Paul’s friend Phoebe: “I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a servant of the church . . . for she has been a great help to many people, including me.”
Class B vans like Phoebe are a cargo van converted into a little house – with all the systems of both and a little bit more. Phoebe has:
A Living Area (which converts to a bed)
A Bathroom
A Kitchen
And a Front Lounge (the table can be at the front or at the back)
As far as systems go, she’s got two all kinds of plumbing (city water, tank water, pump, gray water tank for washing and shower drain, and black water tank for . . . ). She’s got two kinds of electrical power (120V AC and 12V DC) and four ways of charging her lithium ion batteries: running the vehicle, three solar panels, a generator and plugging in to shore power.
She’s got propane to run the stove, the heat, the water heater and the refrigerator (which also runs on DC and AC). She’s got great windows, a fantastic fan and an air conditioner. She’s got an awning, screens for the doors and a soon-to-be-assembled hitch-mounted storage box.
We have also installed a dog
We are thrilled to be taking Phoebe on the road. She drives great. The visibility is amazing. But still it’s a little daunting to have all those systems. Pray that everything keeps working as Phoebe becomes “a servant to the church”
P. S. If you would like to help with our ministry expenses (travel, lodging, etc.) and ultimately with our monthly support, you can make one-time or ongoing gifts to our account at ReachGlobal: Bob and Gail DeGray. Thanks!
